BEST LOCAL BAKERIES IN THE PHOENIX AREA
Need gluten free, nut free and egg free desserts? This is the only place to find this tricky combination! Floral murals don the darling building, a variety of family games are available to play while you enjoy your treats, and the owners and staff are always friendly and helpful at one of our favorite spots, BEG Bakery in Old Town Scottsdale.
For special occasions, we choose cakes from La Grande Orange Bake Shop in Arcadia. The blueberries POP in the lemon-blueberry cake, and the sprinkles scream party on their birthday cake! The chocolate cake is beyond decadent, and there are a variety of niche candles, stickers, and party favors worth considering to impress your guests.
If you're in the mood for a donut, it
will only take a few more minutes to visit the doughnut sommelier at
The Local Donut! This gent knows his donuts, and he takes the process of creating and sharing these works of art and culinary delight seriously. Plan on grooving while you decide which unique donut to try, as they always have a great playlist rockin' in the lobby. Bob Marley featured heavily this past weekend.
Chompies on Shea and 94th Street is an old favorite of
our family, having been a staple in Scottsdale since 1979. Lily and I sparred over whether it's a bakery or a
restaurant, either way, we love their bagels, cookies and crème brûlée! They still have the Cookie Monster and Elmo cupcakes our kids loved as little ones, and when you absolutely must have challah, there is no substitute for their braided loaves.
While Sweet Provisions is known for ice cream and candy shop; they have fresh baked goods too! I can't get over their house-baked pies and cookies! After you fill up on sweets, you can take a walk around the lakes in McCormick Ranch to work off a few of the calories!
If you're in Gilbert (we often were when Lily played for Arizona Arsenal Soccer Club), you absolutely must stop into The Coffee Shop at Agritopia. Their pastry case is filled with absolutely beautiful cupcakes, scones, cookies and brownies! As a bonus, there are gluten-free options, and you can sit outside in the gardens to enjoy your treats!
For the best churros we've found in the valley, stop by Dulce Churro Cafe in Gilbert or Chandler. Churros at Dulce are available to be filled, glazed, topped, or dipped. If you're feeling extra decadent, try one with ice cream.
Finally, we know that Paul Martins is definitely a restaurant, but we go there just for the butter cake! Really, it's to die for!!
